n a recent press release, Web AR Agency, Aircards have announced the release of 4K-AR, their proprietary technology that enables 4K video streaming within Web-based Augmented Reality experiences.

To optimize for Web-based Augmented Reality load times on mobile devices, deploying video content within Web AR has typically restricted the use of 4K quality video due to the associated large file sizes. 4K-AR solves this through adaptive bitrate streaming - similar to how buffering video works on platforms such as YouTube and Netflix.

The introduction of 4K-AR gives brands and marketers the ability to deploy ultra-high quality and long-form duration video content within Web AR marketing campaigns while also drastically reducing experience load times.

This news will be music to the ears of brand marketing teams that are looking to harness Web-based Augmented Reality. Print marketing and Outdoor Advertising will be two areas to benefit from this technology as it gives brands the ability to engage consumers with their brand content in up to 4K quality within AR.

COO of Aircards, Michael Watson said:

“We’re proud to continually lead the charge on innovation within the Web AR space. Our team has developed an approach to enable adaptive streaming of high-resolution video content up to 4K in AR.”

“We’re excited to see how brands will utilize this technology within their own Web AR marketing campaigns, I think we’ll see 4K-AR deployed in a lot of creative ways.”

Web AR has seen an astronomic growth trajectory throughout 2019 and it seems to be accelerating throughout 2020, despite the on-going pandemic and lockdown situation that many countries are currently affected by. Companies have been able to use the app-less technology to deliver engaging and immersive AR experiences to consumers stuck at home.
