n a recent announcement, TeamViewer, a provider of secure remote connectivity solutions, has signed a definitive contract to acquire Ubimax, a provider of wearable computing and AR solutions for frontline workers. TeamViewer hopes that with this acquisition, they can significantly expand their AR and Internet of Things (IoT) and provide industry-specific solutions for enterprise customers.

Ubimax, founded in Bremen Germany in 2014, employs more than 90 members of staff across offices in Germany, the US and Mexico, who sell the company’s products to around 200 enterprise customers across different industries worldwide.

The company provides AR solutions which allow industrial workers to access critical information whilst at work, leading to process improvements as well as efficiency gains. Ubimax’s portfolio includes consultancy services, wearable computing devices as well as ‘Frontline', an industrial AR software platform which helps the worker complete tasks, such as picking an order in a warehouse, by viewing AR instructions and information through smart glasses and head worn devices, helping to complete the task quicker and ultimately improve productivity. For enterprise customers, the solution assists with the management of workflow and communication with their frontline workers.

When asked about the acquisition, CEO and co-founder of Ubimax, Hendrik Witt stated:

Through the acquisition, TeamViewer hopes to explore Ubimax’s broad customer base, particularly amongst international blue-chip companies such as Coca-Cola, Deutsche Post DHL, and BMW to name a few, and offer new business in its enterprise segment. TeamViewer clarified that Ubimax will continue their existing strategic partnerships, including one with Fielmann, enabling it to offer individual prescription lenses in smart glasses with Ubimax software.

TeamViewer stated that with the acquisition of Ubimax, they will be able to expand their AR offering to enterprise customers to support the digitalisation of retail with wearable computing devices, tailor-made software and applications. TeamViewer added that the acquisition will enable the acceleration of new industry-specific use cases, focusing on Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics and further the development of TeamViewer Pilot, an AR solution with usability for smartphones and tablets.
