oogle Search’s view in augmented reality feature has brought animals and landmarks from around the world directly into users' homes. Now, the company is bringing classic characters from TV shows, anime and games including Pac-Man and Hello Kitty to life with augmented reality in Google Search.

The expansion into animated characters makes sense considering Pac-Man is the most searched animated icon on Google, leading the pack by a long way: worldwide search interest in Pac-Man is more than double the next most-searched character, Hello Kitty.

Now, anime is more popular than video games worldwide, with interest for anime climbing to its highest peak on record in the past month.

Google Search has made these characters completely interactive, users can watch ghosts chasing after Pac-Man or Gundam swoop into their living room!

To date the characters listed that are viewable in augmented reality include Evangelion, Hello Kitty, Gomora, Gundam, Pac-Man and Ultraman.

To see the characters in augmented reality, simply search for one of the characters on Google using a mobile device and tap “View in 3D” to rotate or zoom in and see it up close.

Users can bring the characters from their phone into their own space with AR and turn up the volume to hear Pac-man’s retro sound effects or Hello Kitty deliver a cute message.

For users with iOS, search for “Hello Kitty” or one of the 14 characters on the Google app. 3D and AR content is available on iOS 11.0+ devices. On Android devices search for “Hello Kitty” or one of the 14 characters on the Google app or any Android browser and tap “View in 3D.” Users can see 3D content on devices with Android 7 Plus and can see AR content on ARCore-enabled devices.

Users can also create augmented reality videos with the characters or can recreate their favorite scenes with the recording option (#Google3).
