Saturday: Apple’s AR Content To Boost TV+ Video Service

Apple TV+ launched in 2019, and many free subscriptions are now coming to an end, to keep current customers engaged as well as trying to draw in new ones, Apple have announced they are planning to add AR content as a companion to their TV streaming service. The AR content that Apple plans to introduce could be characters or objects from the shows itself, which would then be overlaid onto the real world environment to be interacted with through an iPhone or iPad app.

Sunday: The Witcher: Monster Slayer Mobile Game In AR

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be a free mobile game, although a release date has not been announced, where players can track down, learn about and hunt monsters through the use of AR and brew potions and oils, craft bombs, and upgrade their skills to make the task of taking down tougher monsters easier. The Witcher: Monster Slayer, will merge AR and the real world environment to give players an immersive gaming experience.

Monday: Copy & Paste Straight To Photoshop With This AR App

Cyril Diagne, a developer at Google Arts and Culture, has created a new AR Copy Paste App tool which allows users to copy and paste real-world objects and place them in Photoshop. The tool demonstrates that AR is the go to technology for to copy and paste visuals from the real world into digital documents quickly. Simply point your smartphone at the object you want to copy, and then you can drag that object over to your desktop, saving a significant amount of time emailing photos and editing out the backgrounds.

Tuesday: Niantic Announces Planet-Scale AR Alliance

Niantic recently announced the Niantic Planet-Scale AR Alliance which aims to bring together industry leaders and push AR experiences and 5G forward. Some of the Planet-Scale members include Deutsche Telekom, EE, Globe Telecom, Orange, SK Telecom, SoftBank Corp., TELUS and Verizon. The members will make exclusive 5G-ready AR content, with the Niantic Real-World Platform.

Wednesday: Samsung’s Virtual ‘Life Unstoppable’ Event 

Samsung hosted a virtual Life Unstoppable event that ran alongside the IFA electronics show in Berlin, but this wasn't a typical press conference like the company's two Unpacked events held over the past month. Instead, Samsung built a virtual, 3D tour experience around a house filled with the latest Samsung product releases which virtual attendees could view at home through Web-based Augmented Reality product demonstrations.

Thursday: Netherlands National Police Using AR Glasses

Vuzix Corp. a supplier of smart glasses and other AR technology devices, have announced a new partnership with the Netherlands National Police Unit, who will actively use the Vuzix Blade Smart Glasses to investigate the use of AR in its police force. The pilot program will be undertaken alongside a laboratory test with the universities of Leiden and Twente and the country’s police academy.

Friday: Spatial Launches The Oculus Quest Store 

Spatial, a VR/AR collaboration platform, turns any room into a 3D workspace to more effectively connect remote teams, and have announced that it is available on the Oculus Quest Store, making it accessible on the most widely used headset. Spatial is also announcing a host of new features that will take the immersive collaboration app to the next level and allow everyday people to be more productive.
